Getting the Most out of Your Session - Make Your Session the Best It Can Be:
The Tea Bar!
Making the best of the time and the session can easily be increased with a few simple suggestions I have to offer below. From years of experience in this work, I want to share how you can show up to get the best for yourself.
Show up well. Here are some suggestions to do just that:
Managing Your Investment in Yourself Well:
1. Do Some Prep/'Homeplay": If you can, set an intention for what you want to achieve as well as clarify what the current observable problem to solve is. For those in a Goal's Achievement Session you will have a one page worksheet to fill out as much as you can before you come. I am a real believer in offering something clear and new to REPLACE the old. As the saying goes a monkey doesn't let go of the old branch its swinging from until it has another new branch to hold onto in the other hand. Makes sense with beliefs too.
2. Do Your Client Paperwork Before: Save us both time so we can get to the good part of focusing on YOU! You will get a PDF of the client information form and some helpful information on tax deducting this service.
3. Let it be a Treat/Gift for Yourself: I don't care how serious, terrible or even horrendous the problem is that you might be coming to solve, your session is a special gift to yourself. You are coming because you want better for yourself and want more for your life.
4. Let the Program Unfold for You: Try not to expect everything to change ASAP. First, let yourself process the session/lesson and then apply/allow change to move. It’s about COMPASSIONATELY challenging yourself out of the old box or comfort zone; it was there for a good reason at one point and it's a little un-comfy to let go of something you know even if it doesn't work that well now. So smile.
Show up well. Here are some suggestions to do just that:
- Notebook for Key Points - Both in and out of session a notebook helps you validate insights, keep next steps clear, stay organized AND track progress.
- Drink plenty of water - Pre- and post-session (lemon/lime water, tea, alkaline/potassium salts, etc.) - stay away from coffee, sodas, and alcohol. Like an illness treatment or exercise program where you are creating change, you have to hydrate a lot and with quality (e.g. a bottle of Sunny Delight, 2 Liters of Diet Coke or Starbucks Frappuccino are in no way quality hydration). A lot of my clients are dehydrated chronically (as are most Americans). In the days before and after your session think of committing to upping your hydration by 25% to 50% and choose quality teas, lemon/lime water or functional beverages (with stevia instead of sugar) to make hydrating delicious and more effective.
- Sleep Pre- and Post Session - We are all sleep-deprived; going through change and development means personal care is even more important.
- Post-session relax - Have some quiet time. Don’t have something challenging or special planned for after your session.
- A Little Humor - It really does make a difference. Literally a joke was a test given in ancient Greece to see if you were ready to heal. If you could laugh you were open to learning and changing; if you couldn't laugh then they would turn you away from the healing temple.
- Hot Epson Salt Bath - Steam Room or any way you can add BOTH heat & bathing to your life
- Sleep on your Side - this will help your brain to oxygenate/release better at night and limit snoring or other sleep disruption problems
- Treat Yo' Self - You're not a kid so this isn't about toys and sugar. This is about what makes you feel good without paying a side-effect cost. Think friend time, dancing, being outdoors, healthy hobby, etc.
- Be Open to New Ideas & Changing - It's happened more than a few times someone has been praising me and the learnings in the first session or immediately post session, then the irritation kicks in (the cold feet/old fear might rear its head) and invalidation starts coming up or out. Take a breath as this is what you are acknowledging that you are ready to handle and not just work with now but through.
